Hvammsvík Natural Hot

Discover true Icelandic joy as you immerse yourself in a brand-new geothermal pool, a source of happiness for both locals and tourists alike.

Located less than an hour’s drive from Reykjavik on the shores of the Hvalfjordur Fjord, Hvammsvík Geothermal Pools unveil a rich history.

These hot springs have been a focal point for over a millennium, with ancient settlements in the area dating back more than a thousand years, chronicled in Icelandic sagas. Even during World War II, American soldiers stationed here enjoyed a small geothermal pool for relaxation – remnants of which can still be seen today.

One of Hvammsvík’s unique features is the harmonious blend of the tranquil fjord landscapes and the eight small pools situated right on the waterline. The warm pools seamlessly merge with the grandeur and serenity of the Atlantic Ocean, creating an illusion of bathing in a warm sea. An exceptional aspect of this location is the opportunity to step onto the black sand beach, taking short walks in the vicinity.

Sourced from a natural spring 1,400 meters deep, the geothermally heated water is pure and clean, eliminating the need for chlorine treatment. Ideal for individuals with sensitive skin.

In recent years, many Icelandic companies have emphasized creating experiences that integrate seamlessly with local nature rather than intrude upon it. Hvammsvík Geothermal Pools epitomize how a tourist attraction can be established with utmost respect for nature while still offering a unique experience.

Even the soaps and shampoos in the showers are specially made from locally sourced natural ingredients.

Pay attention to the sea and earth scents in the shower soap. It’s wonderful!

Visits to the hot spring are possible every day from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Advanced ticket booking is highly recommended!

There is no time limit for your stay. The minimum age for children is 12 years. Swimwear is mandatory within the facility, and guests are required to shower before and after their visit.

Admission includes bathing in eight geothermal pools, access to a sauna, and free entry to the black sand beach of the fjord. For a more authentic connection with nature, try the outdoor changing rooms, just like the locals!
