This itinerary includes only 4 days in Iceland, but it will undoubtedly allow you to get a taste of Iceland and surely leave you wanting more. The itinerary includes Icelandic classics in the Golden Circle, Thingvellir National Park, the magnificent Gullfoss waterfall, and the famous Geysir of Iceland. On your third day on the island, head south along the southern coast and enjoy black beaches, waterfalls, canyons, and a variety of outdoor activities you can join.

Day 1 – Arrival  – Reykjanes – Reykjavik

Welcome to Iceland, the land of ice and fire! Depending on your arrival time, you can explore the Reykjanes Peninsula on your way to Reykjavik, an area with unique natural phenomena. The bridge between continents, Lake Kleifarvatn, and even the Blue Lagoon are right on your way to Reykjavik. Depending on the time, you can dedicate some time to Reykjavik’s highlights and the various activities the city offers, including the Sky Lagoon, Perlan, and FlyOver Iceland – the hottest activity in town!

Day 2 – Golden Circle Extended

An essential stop on your Icelandic journey is the renowned Golden Circle route, conveniently situated near Reykjavik. Today is dedicated to immersing yourself in this iconic route, with a focus on three key sites: Thingvellir National Park, Geysir Park, and the awe-inspiring Gullfoss Waterfall (Golden Falls). Thingvellir National Park boasts historical significance as the location of the world’s first parliament. Here, the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates converge, providing visitors with the unique opportunity to walk between continents. The park showcases distinctive geological wonders, including the Silfra fissure, ranked among the world’s premier snorkeling and diving destinations.

In close proximity, Geysir Park is home to the renowned Geysir, an erupting hot spring that propels water into the air at regular intervals. Day 3 – Southern Iceland – Skogafoss Waterfall – Dyrholaey Cliffs

Your first encounter is with the spectacular Seljalandsfoss Waterfall. Continuing along, you’ll reach Skogafoss Waterfall, boasting a width of 60 meters, dramatically plummeting into a tranquil pool below. Ascend the staircase for an extraordinary panoramic view.

Further along the route, you’ll come across Solheimajokull Glacier, an active volcanic glacier in Iceland. Nearby, the Eyjafjallajokull volcano, infamous for disrupting European air traffic in 2010, stands as a stark reminder of the country’s geological dynamism. Your journey unfolds towards the charming village of Vik, known for its picturesque landscapes. Dyrholaey Cliffs, featuring a striking rock arch, black sand beaches, and formidable sea stacks, have served as a cinematic backdrop for numerous films.

Day 4 – Reykjavik – Flight

According to your flight schedule back home, you can spend some time in Reykjavik and explore places in the city that you might have missed on the first day. Make sure to arrive at the airport at least two and a half hours before your flight, and if you need to return the car, it’s better to do so half an hour earlier. Visiting the Blue Lagoon just before your flight could be a good idea, allowing you to both relax with a bath and board the plane feeling refreshed.
